Virginia War Memorial Foundation – Marocchi Memorial College Scholarship

In memory of Rear Admiral John Marocchi, a scholarship has been created to encourage and enable motivated individuals who are enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at a Virginia school of higher education.

You must meet the following criteria when submitting your application package:
1. Be currently enrolled full-time at a Virginia college or university, AND currently enrolled
in an ROTC program at that school (any branch).
2. Have graduated from a Virginia High School or otherwise able to indicate status as a
Virginian prior to beginning college.
3. Be a US citizen or permanent resident at the time of application.
4. Possess a minimum GPA of 2.75

 

Virginia 811 Scholarship

Virginia 811 Scholarship Eligibility.

•  Applicant must have at least one parent or legal guardian who works full or part-time at a Virginia 811 Member Utility, works as a Utility Locator locating utilities in Virginia, or is a Professional Excavator who works in Virginia and whose company has successfully set up a Web Ticket Entry Account with Virginia 811.
•   Applicants must be Virginia residents and attend an accredited Virginia high school, public or private.
•  Applicants must be seniors at their respective high schools.
•   Applicants must have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
•   Applicants must be planning to attend either community college, an accredited trade school, or a four-year, accredited, college or university by the following fall after graduation.
•   Applicants must successfully complete the Basic C.A.R.E. Module (Training Only) as a “Homeowner” prior to applying for this scholarship and include a screenshot of the course completion screen in the Section 1-4 PDF (see PDF details in the Guidelines section).

 

Hanover Republican Women’s Club Scholarship

Available for a female candidate with strong leadership skills, community service, and political activities.

 

Headwaters Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) Scholarship

The Headwaters Soil & Water Conservation District Scholarship guidelines/criteria allow full-time students who have applied to a college undergraduate level curriculum to apply for the SWCD Scholarship Program. These scholarships are offered to graduating high school students as well as college students. Preference may be given to applicants who have not previously received a Headwaters SWCD scholarship.  Eligible applicants
must reside or attend school within the boundaries of the Headwaters SWCD (Augusta County, the City of
Staunton, or the City of Waynesboro).

Recipients are selected based on various criteria including: academic achievement, school and community involvement, interest in natural resources conservation, as well as financial need.

The District also screens applications and selects one application to forward on to the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) for consideration for one of the available VASWCD Educational Foundation, Inc. Scholarships.

 

Congressional Art Competition – 7th District

The competition is open to all high school students who either live or attend school in the Seventh District. The winner of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside artwork from other nation-wide contest winners, as well as being featured on the Congressional Art Competition web page.

Accepted Mediums for Artwork

  • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
  • Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (it is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed)
  • Collages: must be two-dimensional
  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photographs

 

Cobra One Social Club – The Miriam “Ellen” Armstrong Memorial Scholarship

Requirements

 

  • Must be a high school senior for the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Must be a resident of Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, or New Kent, Virginia
  • Provide a copy of unofficial transcripts with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Provide a summary of community service experience(s), including date(s) of service
  • In a short essay, describe how your efforts in community service have impacted you personally. Your essay should be a minimum of 500 words, typed 12-inch font, double-spaced and not to exceed 1 full page.

 

The Parker Family Scholarship

The scholarship is open to all Richmond Public School high school seniors currently attending one of the eight high schools in the city. The eligibility requirements for the scholarship are below:

  1.  Attend one of the eight Richmond Public Schools for at least a year.

  2.  Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university.

  3.  Graduate during the spring or summer of the year 2024.

  4.  Have demonstrated financial need.

 

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority – Pi Rho Omega Chapter–Dr. Linda H. Gilliam Scholarship

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant must be a female high school student (senior) graduating from Chesterfield County or Powhatan County Public Schools
  • Must be in the graduating class of 2024
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • ACT or SAT scores are optional
  • Must show demonstrated service in her school and community
  • Must write a 300 – 500 word essay on “Why I Want to Attend an HBCU?”

 

The Shann Palmer Poetry Contest

The Shann Palmer Poetry Contest is a partnership between James River Writers and Richmond magazine to encourage Virginia poets to share their best work.

First prize: $500, publication of winning poem(s) in Richmond magazine, and a ticket to the annual James River Writers conference.

 

 

Hitting Cancer Below the Belt (HCB2) – Can We Talk? Scholarship

Each year Hitting Cancer Below the Belt (HCB2) will award the HCB2 “Can We Talk?” scholarship to a graduating senior in Chesterfield County who has created a public service announcement (PSA) to educate young people about colon health and colorectal cancer prevention.
