Virginia School Boards Association – (VSBA) Student Essay Contest

PURPOSE
This contest is designed to give high school students in Virginia an opportunity to express creative ideas
and concepts, conduct research, think critically, practice public speaking skills, and subsequently receive
recognition. It also presents a golden opportunity for our Conference on Education attendees to witness
firsthand the remarkable caliber of students from across the Commonwealth, providing a vibrant
showcase of excellence in education.

 

bbgb Books Scholarship

In 2021, bbgb celebrated 11 years as an independent bookshop by offering our first-ever scholarship to one high school senior in the greater Richmond area. Since then, our goal has been to make this an annual opportunity for high school seniors, so we’re incredibly excited this year to offer a scholarship in the form of $1,000. Recipients will also receive 10 copies of the book featured in their application essay to give to members of their community.

 

Virginia Bluebird Society Young Birder Scholarship Program

The Virginia Bluebird Society is proud to provide scholarships/grants up to a maximum of $500 to help young people who are interested in birds to attend summer camps, workshops, training programs, conventions and other birding-related activities.  Individual must be a resident of Virginia between the ages of 14 and 22.

 

Hanover Optimist Essay Contest

The contest is open to contestants under the age of 19 as of October 1st of the current Optimist International contest year (October 1 – September 30) and who have not yet completed secondary school or its equivalent, including CEGEP students in Québec, Canada. There is no minimum age. Students must enter in the District in which they reside (see application for additional information).

 

Virginia Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship

Every two years Virginia Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa awards a scholarship to a graduating high school senior. The recipient should be in good academic standing at their high school with the future goal of becoming an educator or working in the field of education.
This scholarship is offered every two years.

 

Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (VIAAA) Scholarships

The Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (VIAAA) offers three scholarship opportunities to high school seniors in the State of Virginia who have participated in athletics at a Virginia High School League member school or Independent school.

 

The Young Leader Scholarship

River Run Law is proud to announce The Young Leader Scholarship to help support young professionals seeking to be a leader in their local community.

To assist in promoting young leadership within local communities, River Run Law is offering a $1,000 leadership scholarship to be put towards college education costs.

To qualify, candidates must be accepted to, or currently enrolled in an accredited college.  An essay is required.

 

 

FIRST Chesapeake Women in STEM Scholarships

Eligibility: Scholarships available for women (high school juniors and seniors) currently registered with a FIRST team in the FIRST Chesapeake District (FTC or FRC in DC, Maryland and Virginia)

 

Virginia War Memorial Foundation – Marocchi Memorial College Scholarship

In memory of Rear Admiral John Marocchi, a scholarship has been created to encourage and enable motivated individuals who are enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at a Virginia school of higher education.

You must meet the following criteria when submitting your application package:
1. Be currently enrolled full-time at a Virginia college or university, AND currently enrolled
in an ROTC program at that school (any branch).
2. Have graduated from a Virginia High School or otherwise able to indicate status as a
Virginian prior to beginning college.
3. Be a US citizen or permanent resident at the time of application.
4. Possess a minimum GPA of 2.75

 

Virginia 811 Scholarship

Virginia 811 Scholarship Eligibility.

•  Applicant must have at least one parent or legal guardian who works full or part-time at a Virginia 811 Member Utility, works as a Utility Locator locating utilities in Virginia, or is a Professional Excavator who works in Virginia and whose company has successfully set up a Web Ticket Entry Account with Virginia 811.
•   Applicants must be Virginia residents and attend an accredited Virginia high school, public or private.
•  Applicants must be seniors at their respective high schools.
•   Applicants must have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
•   Applicants must be planning to attend either community college, an accredited trade school, or a four-year, accredited, college or university by the following fall after graduation.
•   Applicants must successfully complete the Basic C.A.R.E. Module (Training Only) as a “Homeowner” prior to applying for this scholarship and include a screenshot of the course completion screen in the Section 1-4 PDF (see PDF details in the Guidelines section).

 

Hanover Republican Women’s Club Scholarship

Available for a female candidate with strong leadership skills, community service, and political activities.

 

Headwaters Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) Scholarship

The Headwaters Soil & Water Conservation District Scholarship guidelines/criteria allow full-time students who have applied to a college undergraduate level curriculum to apply for the SWCD Scholarship Program. These scholarships are offered to graduating high school students as well as college students. Preference may be given to applicants who have not previously received a Headwaters SWCD scholarship.  Eligible applicants
must reside or attend school within the boundaries of the Headwaters SWCD (Augusta County, the City of
Staunton, or the City of Waynesboro).

Recipients are selected based on various criteria including: academic achievement, school and community involvement, interest in natural resources conservation, as well as financial need.

The District also screens applications and selects one application to forward on to the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) for consideration for one of the available VASWCD Educational Foundation, Inc. Scholarships.

 

Congressional Art Competition – 7th District

The competition is open to all high school students who either live or attend school in the Seventh District. The winner of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside artwork from other nation-wide contest winners, as well as being featured on the Congressional Art Competition web page.

Accepted Mediums for Artwork

  • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
  • Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (it is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed)
  • Collages: must be two-dimensional
  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photographs

 

Cobra One Social Club – The Miriam “Ellen” Armstrong Memorial Scholarship

Requirements

 

  • Must be a high school senior for the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Must be a resident of Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, or New Kent, Virginia
  • Provide a copy of unofficial transcripts with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Provide a summary of community service experience(s), including date(s) of service
  • In a short essay, describe how your efforts in community service have impacted you personally. Your essay should be a minimum of 500 words, typed 12-inch font, double-spaced and not to exceed 1 full page.

 

The Parker Family Scholarship

The scholarship is open to all Richmond Public School high school seniors currently attending one of the eight high schools in the city. The eligibility requirements for the scholarship are below:

  1.  Attend one of the eight Richmond Public Schools for at least a year.

  2.  Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university.

  3.  Graduate during the spring or summer of the year 2023.

  4.  Have demonstrated financial need.

 

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority – Pi Rho Omega Chapter–Dr. Linda H. Gilliam Scholarship

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant must be a female high school student (senior) graduating from Chesterfield County or Powhatan County Public Schools
  • Must be in the graduating class of 2024
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • ACT or SAT scores are optional
  • Must show demonstrated service in her school and community
  • Must write a 300 – 500 word essay on “Why I Want to Attend an HBCU?”

 

Hitting Cancer Below the Belt (HCB2) – Can We Talk? Scholarship

Each year Hitting Cancer Below the Belt (HCB2) will award the HCB2 “Can We Talk?” scholarship to a graduating senior in Chesterfield County who has created a public service announcement (PSA) to educate young people about colon health and colorectal cancer prevention.

 

Tyler Wentz Godwin High School Memorial Scholarship

Mission Statement:

The Tyler Wentz Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to provide financial support for higher learning to a student at Godwin High School who has demonstrated exceptional kindness, outstanding attitude and character, strong community involvement, positivity, and great Godwin spirit.

 

Tyler Wentz Tuckahoe Little League Memorial Scholarship

Mission Statement:

The Tyler Wentz Tuckahoe Little League Memorial Scholarship was created to provide financial support for higher learning to a player at Tuckahoe Little League who in their years at Tuckahoe, has demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, leadership, strong mentorship, a positive and fun spirit, strong sense of family and community involvement, ambition, and self-drive.

 

Henrico Education Foundation – David A. Kaechele Memorial Scholarship

Available for a Henrico County Public School senior who attended Kaechele Elementary School for at least one year.

 

The Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters – Richmond (CPCU) College Scholarship

Bruce Kay Scholarship for Undergraduate Studies: Scholarships are awarded to selected undergraduate college students based on an expected interest in pursuing a career in the insurance and risk management industry. Consideration will be given based on academic and extracurricular achievements and application responses. Eligible students must be an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited Virginia two or four-year college or university with an intent to enroll or currently enrolled in a business degree program with an interest in pursuing a career in the insurance and risk management industry.

 

The Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters – Richmond (CPCU) High School Scholarship

High School Scholarship: Scholarships are awarded to selected college-bound high school seniors based on an expected interest in pursuing a business degree. Consideration will be given based on academic and extracurricular achievements and application responses. Eligible students must be graduating high school seniors who reside in the Greater Richmond Region and intend to continue their education at a Virginia two or four-year college or university with the intent to enroll in a business degree program.

 

Dominion Energy Educational Equity Scholarship Program

Applicants to the Dominion Energy Educational Equity Scholarship Program must:

  • Be historically underserved students who self-identify as Black/African American; Hispanic or Latino; America Indian or Alaska Native; Asian; or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.
  • High school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates residing in one of the following states:
    • CT, OH, WV, VA, MD, NC, SC, ID, WY, UT
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

 

Hanover Education Foundation Serve & Learn Scholarships

In 1996-97 Hanover County Public Schools, supported by a grant from the Virginia Department of Education, began a program called Serve & Learn. The program’s purpose was to encourage and acknowledge the importance of volunteer service to the community. With the goal of annually rewarding the community service commitments of Hanover students, the Serve & Learn program, now sponsored by Hanover Education Foundation, awards a $1,000 scholarship to ONE senior in each high school who successfully fulfills a 100-hour commitment to community service in ONE location commencing in sophomore year.  Contact guidance counselor for more information.

 

Mid-Atlantic Security Traders Foundation Scholarships

The Mid-Atlantic STA Foundation is dedicated to the needs of students of business, finance, and economics and is proud to offer our Annual Scholarship Awards. This year the Foundation intends to award two $2,000 scholarships for high school seniors who have participated in Stock Market Game (one from MD and one from VA) for their first year of college, and two $5,000 college/university scholarships to candidates selected from our member jurisdiction of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.  The scholarship winners will be announced in August, with monies forwarded to the respective schools on behalf of the recipients prior to the Fall semester.

 

Virginia Department of Health – Mary Marshall Nursing Scholarships

Scholarships available for LPN and RN programs.  To be considered for a Mary Marshall Nursing Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

1.  Residency in VA for at least 1 year,

2.  Enrollment or acceptance to VA nursing school program,

3.  Maintain a 2.5 GPA in required courses,

4.  Demonstrate financial need

 

3rd Congressional District of Virginia Art Contest

The Artistic Discovery Contest is open to all high school students in the 3rd Congressional District of Virginia. The over-all winner of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other contest winners nation-wide.

 

Omega Rho Omega-Lisa Winn Bryan Scholarship

Omega Rho Omega chapter is excited to award two (2) $1,000 scholarships to two (2) African American, high school, female seniors graduating from schools in Eastern Henrico, Charles City or New Kent counties.

 

Henrico Education Foundation Scholarships

Henrico Education Foundation is strongly committed to assisting students as they continue their education beyond high school.
