Mid-Atlantic Chapter, International Erosion Control Association Collegiate Scholarship

Several scholarships will be awarded to assist undergraduate students within a designated field of study associated with Erosion and Sediment Control.  Applicant must be a declared major at an accredited four-year college or university located in one of the Mid-Atlantic states listed and must be either a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate.  Must have a career direction related to the field of Stormwater Management or Erosion and Sediment Control.  Possible fields of study could include environmental science, earth studies, and earth science, agricultural and civil engineering, soil science, agronomy, geology, hydrology, construction technology, forestry, agricultural science, and marine science.  Applicant must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.

 

Karen Riley Porter, Attorney at Law – Good Works Scholarship

Criteria for eligibility and selection:

  • The scholarship program is open to all undergraduate, graduate, and law school students, as well as incoming college freshmen at an accredited U.S. educational institution.
  • The candidate must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements:

The Karin Riley Porter Attorney at Law Scholarship program welcomes all students who meet the above criteria to apply. Applicants will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • A current resume,
  • An academic transcript,
  • A letter of recommendation,
  • A 500-word essay that identifies the applicant and describes the applicant’s leadership and dedication in giving back to his or her community through community service projects, including projects involving criminal justice issues.

 

Virginia Aviation Business Association (VABA) – Charles J. Colgan Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a Virginia high school senior, technical school senior or college/university undergraduate who is pursuing an aviation related career at an accredited institution.  The applicant must submit an essay and letters of recommendation.   

 

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Greater Richmond Branch Scholarship

Preference will be given to women who are at least 30 years of age and legal residents of Virginia.  Applicants should be enrolled in an associate degree program and have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours toward a degree.  Applicants majoring in all academic fields are encouraged to apply, however those majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and other non-traditional majors will be given additional consideration.

 

Congressman Bobby Scott – Service Academy Nominations

As the Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, for the 3rd Congressional District, Bobby Scott may nominate a limited number of people to four of the five service academies.  The 3rd congressional district of Virginia is located in southeast Virginia where the James, Nansemond and Elizabeth rivers meet the Chesapeake Bay and encompasses the core of the Hampton Roads region, including all of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and parts of the city of Chesapeake.  The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.  For more information, see link below.

 

GRASP College Success Scholarship

To be eligible for this program students must participate in at least three GRASP College Success e-mail programs this academic year and have at least a 2.5 GPA for the year.  Financial need must be demonstrated and a current FAFSA form should have been filed.  An essay is required.

 

The Joel Bieber Firm Scholarship

Applicants should be current high school or home-schooled seniors in the State of Virginia who plan to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution and should have a 3.0 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.  A completed application, an essay, letter of recommendation, a publicity release form, picture, and high school transcript are required.

 

Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia – C. Charles Vache Scholarship Fund

These scholarships are provided to assist low-income and minority college students in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia.

First year students as well as returning college students are welcome to apply. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $2500 per academic year.

 

OVG360 (GRCC – Greater Richmond Convention Center) Scholarship

This company has a scholarship available to a graduating high school senior in Hanover County who will attend an accredited educational institution and plans to major in the field of Hospitality, Tourism, Sports or Venue Management.  Contact high school counselor for more information.

 

American Legion Oratorical Contest

Created by the American Legion to impart leadership qualities, along with the ability to think and speak clearly and promote an understanding of the history of our nation’s laws and the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.  State winners will move on to a national competition.
